Now Obama has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of camels, and

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040
federal tax
form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints
and a
tax of $50 per gun. (if it is later found that you had guns
that you
declined to declare and or pay the tax on you could be charged
with a
felony)

The bill was introduced on Feb. 24th and will become public
knowledge 30

days after it is voted into law.. This is an amendment to the
Internal
Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can
pass this
without the Senate voting on it at all..

Today, the U.S. Senate commences hearings on Justice Sonia Sotomayor,
who was nominated by President Obama to replace the retiring Judge
David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court.

In many ways, Sotomayor's views are out-of-step with our American
heritage and with the views of Americans in general. For example,
Sotomayor believes that our fundamental law is constantly evolving and
that rights are constantly changing with the times.

But should we be surprised? The President who nominated her holds some
of the most radical views ever held by a resident of the White House.
His take on the Constitution -- and the Second Amendment in particular
-- has stationed him to the far left on the political spectrum.

Consider just a small snapshot of his record over the years:

* As President, Obama has nationalized much of the car and banking
industry and is now looking to do the same with health care. Even the
Marxist President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, joked on live television
last month that he and Fidel Castro need to be careful or else "we
are going to end up to [Obama's] right."

* As a U.S. Senator, Obama was ranked by the National Journal in 2007
as the most liberal legislator in that chamber. Realize that such a
ranking put Obama to the left of 99 other Senators -- including an
open, self-avowed socialist, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

* Like many socialists, Obama has supported some of the most extreme
positions on gun control: supporting a ban on handguns, opposing the
repeal of the draconian DC gun ban, opposing the right of self-defense
for residents in the Chicago suburbs, and much more.

Obama's brand of far-left politics sees the Constitution as moldable as
a ball of wax. In a 2001 interview, he criticized earlier Supreme
Courts for "never ventur[ing] into the issues of redistribution of
wealth.... It didn't break free from the essential constraints that
were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution."

Sotomayor appears to have the same view of our highest document, as she
stated in 1996 that law is not "static and predictable," but
"constantly overhaul[ed] and adapt[ed] [by lawyers and courts] to
the realities of ever-changing social, industrial and political
conditions."

ACTION: Please urge your two Senators to vote AGAINST the Sotomayor
nomination. Tell them to cast a pro-gun vote on EVERY vote related to
Judge Sonia Sotomayor (whether it's a vote on sustaining a filibuster
or a vote on final passage).

Judge Sonia Sotomayor's views are out-of-step with our American

the Rasmussen polling firm reported on July 1 that more Americans
oppose her nomination than support her.

Sotomayor believes that our fundamental law is constantly evolving and
that rights are constantly changing with the times. But a majority of
Americans disagree. Multiple polls have found that almost
three-fourths of all Americans believe that the Second Amendment of the
U.S. Constitution protects the rights of "individuals" to own
guns. Not so for Judge Sotomayor:

* She ruled in United States v. Sanchez-Villar (2004) that "the
right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right."

* And earlier this year, Sotomayor was part of a three-judge panel
which ruled in Maloney v. Cuomo that the Second Amendment does not
apply to the states. This makes her more liberal than the Ninth
Circuit, which stated in the Nordyke case in April that the Second
Amendment does apply to the states.

Please cast a pro-gun vote on EVERY vote related to Judge Sonia

The Obama Administration has revealed its intention to
reinstate the so-called "assault" gun ban -- Step One of
their plan to repeal the 2nd Amendment.

Having already taken advantage of our country's current
economic woes to speed the largest, most pork-laden
spending spree in history through the Democrat-controlled
Congress, the Obama team is again using fear tactics to
impose bad policy.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced his desire to once
again deny law abiding Americans their 2nd Amendment rights
, using the ongoing violence in Mexico as justification.

Holder blames the legal availability of semi-automatic
rifles in the United States -- and their subsequent misuse
by foreigners committing crimes outside our borders -- on
our right to own these firearms. The Obama administration's
top law enforcement official then added that a new gun ban
"will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum."

The U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed the individual's right to
firearm ownership just last year -- but now the Obama
Administration is again after our guns.

We cannot allow the rights of American citizens to be
denied because of the misdeeds of foreigners outside the
United States.

The mainstream media are clearly revealing their biased
support of infringing our right to buy and own firearms. In
an ABC News piece about Holder's gun ban announcement, a
recent State Department travel advisory is referenced which
warns visitors to Mexico of gun battles between government
troops and "cartels employing automatic weapons and
grenades."

American gun owners know that the "assault" gun ban has
nothing to do with these fully-automatic machine guns and
explosives, which are already unavailable to the general
public.

It is clear that the Obama Democrats are looking for any
excuse to once again threaten our freedoms. Their
nanny-state, Big Brother mentality has no place in our
Constitutional Republic. Don`t be fooled we are not the
only country that the bad boys can get automatic weapons
from.

He supported national handgun licensing, mandatory trigger locks, and ending gun shows as we know them.

Just recently, Holder opposed the District of Columbia's Heller decision that declared the Second Amendment an individual right. Holder also called for reviving the Clinton gun bans and, as Attorney General, would fight in court to prevent the landmark Heller decision from being made applicable to state and local governments.

Worst of all, if Holder is confirmed as the nation's top law-enforcement officer, he would control BATFE and wield enormous power to harass gun owners and sue America's arms makers out of existence.

Obama's FIFTH attack on YOU : In the job application for the Obama Administration, he made it clear that gun owners are second-class citizens and told 80 million gun owners not to even bother applying for a job. In the "White House Personnel Data Questionnaire" he asked:

           "Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide
           complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever
           lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has
           been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage."

This chilling notice to gun owners-that they are not welcome to serve in his Administration-shows the deep hostility for Americans' Second Amendment Freedoms that Obama and his Administration have in their hearts.

On its face, that question endorses gun registration-a mandate in only five states in our nation-and buys into the anti-gun premise that firearms are inherently dangerous and gun owners are prone to misusing them.

That's an outrageous mindset, especially for the President-elect whose sworn duty will be to uphold the U.S. Constitution, including our right to keep and bear arms.

Obama CLEARLY wants to make gun registration the law of the land.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.
THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians ... it creates a hostile work environment.

the American way is not socialism

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, the natural progress of things
is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground, in
debate on the Bill of Rights James Madison wanted the
American people have the right to be armed in order to
prevent the kind of tyranny that dominated the rest of the
world especially Europe. Trust me,one of the reasons in the
past that we never got attacked directly is because of
private gun ownership. Countries that have gun control
still have high crime.

In the last century totalitarian regimes such as Soviet
Union and Nazi Germany successfully confiscated firearms
from their citizens in order to force them to submit more
easily.

The second amendment ensures that Americans have the
ability to secure their rights and defend them from
government suppression if necessary. It is that right that
a government of the people by the people and for the people
must never extinguish.

When someone stands on a stage, in a stadium, surrounded by
people giving a speech and he's the only one on this stage,
does that remind you of someone in 1930s Germany doing the
same thing with the cheering crowd. Is this the part of the
new world order that the Democrats are moving towards….

I used to like the Democratic Party, they were the party of
the people but now there are leaning towards things they
shouldn't, they are becoming socialistic, just as the
party's did in early Europe, before those countries were
taken over.We fought wars against socialism, it is not the
American way.

Someone once said Congress is brain-dead, well they have
been brain-dead for years, they're supposed to represent
the American people, but they only represent themselves in
their own self-interest while the American people are
losing their jobs, they vote themselves raises, give
themselves early retirement after one term, this is not why
we elected them to office.

They've known from me years they need to do something about
greenhouse gases, the environment, alternative energy, but
in the past have only paid lip service to these issues...
so here we sit 20 years later and nothing has been done.
But they attack items like the 2nd amendment and try to
change it,(this take our mind off of the things that are
really important) that they can`t do anything about,like
jobs,homes,food,etc…………….

It takes more than a new president to get issues corrected,
without Congress who are always in power, and still nothing
is ever done about the important issues,year after year.

Maybe we should vote them out and start over.

While I don't always agree with the Republican choice, it
is far better to vote for them, than to vote for Democrats
and socialism and the changes it will bring, let me get
this straight, race has nothing to do with it, it is what
that party believes in, they think they know better than
the people what's good for them, and they want to tell us
how to run our lives.

To get my vote back, they need to become the party of the
people again, and leave things like gun ownership alone and
get on with the really important issues.

Safety, the American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA) has arrived
on the scene to become the latest front group for the anti-gun movement
in America.

Our tireless efforts and resulting victories at the ballot box have made
it clear that openly campaigning against the Second Amendment is a
political loser.

The anti-gun groups have undertaken a concerted effort to mask their
long-term agenda, but only as a mark of pure, calculating political expedience.
It surprised no one when Handgun Control, Inc., decided to change its
name to the decidedly vague "Brady Campaign."

But the effort to paint the anti-gun agenda with the comfortable warmth
of "gun safety" rhetoric moved from tactical to strategic with the
formation of Americans for Gun Safety (AGS) in July 2000.

Funded solely by New York City dot-com billionaire Andrew McKelvey—
previously a member of the Handgun Control, Inc., board.....

the democratic and republican canidates must be made to answer one
question "do they support the 2nd amendment? and the right to bear Arms"
everyone thinks courting the younger generation vote is the way to go

but they forget how strong our vote is.
which ever one says yes to the 2nd amendment in no uncertain terms can

probably garner more than 40 million votes, but so far all canidates are
being extrmely quite on this issue,makes you wonder what their hidden
agenda is?
Candidates who championed gun control in contested races were nearly
non-existent. but this was to be expected,if they don`t talk about
it-you won`t know they are against you.................

Even while we are busy defending our Second
Amendment rights against efforts to enhance the
Brady Law, there is a movement afoot to restrict
our First Amendment rights as well... a movement
that can make the defense of our liberties that
much harder.
You may have heard of this effort as the "Hush
Rush" bill or, just simply, as the Fairness
Doctrine. No matter how you look at it, however,
there is nothing fair about it.

You must ASK the canidates how they feel about the
2nd amendment,they are being quiet on this for a reason
so ask or loose your rights again

Who does congress think they are?
the certainly don`t ask us before they
try to enact this stuff..they do what they want
no matter how we feel on a subject

You may have heard of this effort as the "Hush
Rush" bill or, just simply, as the Fairness
Doctrine. No matter how you look at it, however,
there is nothing fair about it.

Better termed the UnFairness Doctrine, it would
radically limit the type of information you hear
in the media and would greatly restrict access by
Gun Owners of America to the airwaves.

Access to talk radio has been crucial for GOA. If
we had to depend on network news alone, one would
think that crime is out of control. Talk radio
has given Second Amendment supporters the
opportunity to present the data that more guns in
the hands of the public has actually lowered
crime.

On June 28, the House of Representatives voted
309 to 115 for an amendment -- offered by pro-gun
Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) -- to defund enforcement
of the unFairness Doctrine. This was a great
victory. But even though the amendment -- which
was added to a Federal Communication Commission
appropriation (HR 2829) -- was a victory for
supporters of the First Amendment, it does not
give lasting comfort to supporters of free
speech.

The vote on the appropriations amendment applies
only to FCC actions in 2008. Since no one thinks
that the Commission would move to reimpose the
unFairness Doctrine until after 2008, what is
needed is enactment of S. 1748, the Broadcaster
Freedom Act which was introduced by Senator Norm
Coleman (R-MN).

The so-called Fairness Doctrine is openly touted
as a way to squelch conservative's market-driven
dominance of talk radio. For example, Sen. James
Inhofe of Oklahoma reports overhearing a
conversation between Senators Hilary Clinton (NY)
and Barbara Boxer (CA). The two Senators were
complaining about conservatives' success in the
free market of ideas on radio and said "We've got
to have a balance. There's got to be a
legislative fix for this."

The UnFairness Doctrine is on its face an attack
on free speech. Were folks like Senators Clinton
and Boxer truly interested in balance, they would
want to extend their unFairness Doctrine to the
Public Broadcasting System and the network news
programs, almost all of which tilt to the left.

The anti-free speech forces in Congress may want
to gag talk radio because Air America has
staggered into bankruptcy. Air America, which was
the left's failed attempt to compete with
conservative talk radio, has almost no audience.
It got its clock cleaned and has only itself to
blame. It should not be allowed to hide behind a
phony "Fairness Doctrine.

Remember, the First Amendment protects free
speech, not fairness. Free speech is a
constitutional doctrine; using the power of
government to mandate political "fairness" is a
socialist doctrine.

You may recall that in recent years, GOA has
enlisted your aid in fighting so-called "gang"
legislation, which typically includes attempts to
apply federal RICO anti-racketeering statutes to
minor gun infractions -- thus harassing and
prosecuting otherwise law-abiding gun owners as
though they were Mafia bosses.

Well, Feinstein's S. 456 is the latest vehicle
for such underhandedness.

At issue is section 215 of the bill. In essence,
your family, gun shop employees, or even church
bowling league would be considered an organized
"gang" and subjected to draconian prison
sentences if you did any of a number of things,
such as:

* having a gun (loaded OR unloaded) in your
glovebox as you -- inevitably -- drive within
1,000 feet of a school, even if you didn't know
the school was there;

* selling a gun out of your store while being
entrapped in a Bloomberg-style "sting" operation;

* teaching your son to shoot without giving him a
written letter of permission (which must be on
his actual person), even if you are standing
right behind him at the range the whole time; or,

* simply being one the 83,000 veterans whose
names were illegally added to the Brady system by
President Clinton (or, presumably, one of the
thousands more who will be on the list if the
current Veterans Disarmament bill passes), if you
continued to possess a firearm.

Now, there's a lot of legal verbiage in S. 456,
which is quite large as bills go. Feinstein and
her anti-gun cronies will counter that the
situations listed above aren't enough -- you also
have to commit a crime of violence while engaging
in them.

Oh yeah? Consider how many people defending
themselves from carjackers or their businesses
from hold-ups are indicted by anti-gun
prosecutors merely for exercising their right to
self-defense. And what judge is going to say that
the "gun crimes" in those instances aren't crimes
of violence?

Further, any anti-gun prosecutor could simply
state that family members or gun shop employees
are "co-conspirators" or are "aiding and
abetting" actual criminals using guns.

And of course, we have had plenty of warning of
what happens when prosecutorial powers are
enormously expanded. Take the original RICO Act
itself, for example. We were told that it was
needed to shut down the Mafia -- a tool to be
used in the fight against organized crime. But in
the years since its passage, the RICO Act has
become the overzealous prosecutor's version of
going nuclear... wrapping everything up in one
big package of conspiracy charges and twenty
years to life prison terms.

It just isn't right that you, your spouse, and
your two teenage boys could be treated like the
Gambino family just because you brandished your
firearm to scare away a carjacker... without
firing a shot! And prison terms of 10, 20, or
even all of your remaining years aren't right in
such instances, either!

In short, section 215 of S. 456 is unacceptable.
It must be deleted, period. To our knowledge, the
entire Second Amendment community -- spearheaded
by GOA and the NRA -- is adamantly opposed to
Feinstein's scheme.

It should be noted that there is lots of talk on
Capitol Hill about how to "handle" the problems
of S. 456 with a minimum of fuss. The most likely
scenario is that there would only be two
amendments allowed -- one Republican and one
Democratic. Once that is done, the Senate would
immediately proceed to a vote on the bill...
which may or may not be a recorded vote. Gun
owners should bear in mind that, regardless of
which politician is saying otherwise, there is NO
GUARANTEE that the Republican amendment would
even attempt to totally strike section 215. The
amendment might not help matters that much, and
might not pass anyway.

So this attempt to placate gun owners with a
"roll of the dice" amendment vote is nothing more
than the usual smoke-and-mirrors designed to give
politicians cover from the wrath of a known
activist constituency.

GOA doesn't believe in gambling with your rights.
Our position is firm and unalterable: section 215
must go away, now. The time to kill a snake is
before it strikes. And this snake could strike at
any time; a vote on final passage could occur as
early as this week.

So here's what you can do to help kill the snake.
Any individual senator can place a "hold" on a
particular piece of legislation until his or her
concerns are addressed; if the Leadership ignores
those objections, it becomes extremely difficult
to move the legislation forward. The "hold" is a
legislative tactic that we have used to great
advantage in the past. We need at least one
Senator to take that step and place a hold on S.
456.

You'd think that when rabid, anti-gun legislators like Sen. Charles
Schumer and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy join together to pass anti-gun
legislation, it would raise a few red flags.

But these two New York Democrats are currently planning to roll over
gun owners with H.R. 2640 -- legislation which would bar you from
owning guns if:

* You are a battle-scarred veteran suffering from Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder; or

* As a kid, you were diagnosed with ADHD.

Not to mention the fact that your ailing grandfather could have his
entire gun collection seized, based only on a diagnosis of
Alzheimer's (and there goes the family inheritance).

Gun owners have been desperately fighting this bill for several
months. You will remember that it passed in the House with an
unrecorded voice vote in June and was later passed out of the Senate
Judiciary Committee -- also without a recorded vote.

Sen. Schumer is pushing hard to pass this legislation -- dubbed the
Veterans Disarmament Act -- so he is circulating an
"agreement" which
would waive the Senate rules in order to bring up and pass the bill.

This agreement could come about in the next few hours or the next
couple of days!

This agreement is extremely diabolical, as it would eliminate the
ability of pro-gun senators to offer amendments which would clean up
the legislation... and would grease the skids for immediate passage!

But there is good news: In order for Schumer's "agreement" to
prevail, he must get "unanimous consent." This means that just ONE
single senator can block it.

them to OBJECT to Senator Chuck Schumer's "unanimous consent

A May 15 story in The Plain Dealer (Cleveland, Ohio) serves as a good reminder of how a person's support for gun control often changes after a personal experience with crime. State Representative Michael DeBose (D-12) of Cleveland was an opponent of Right-to-Carry, having voted against the measure twice. All that changed on the night of May 1, when he was confronted by two men, one of whom was wielding a gun. On that night, Rep. DeBose's sense of security in his neighborhood changed, as did his view on lawful citizens being able to defend themselves.

CALIFORNIA (1): Sacramento City Council Proposes Anti-Gun Ordinances! The Sacramento City Council is considering and could vote any day on two anti-gun ordinances. The first ordinance would require that the purchaser of ammunition be subject to unnecessary forms, fingerprinting, and a background check for each and every retail purchase. The second ordinance would dictate that a lost or stolen firearm must be reported to law enforcement within 48-hours of the discovery. CALIFORNIA (2): NRA Urges California Lawmakers to Vote "NO" on AB 1471 and AB 334 AB 1471 would require that the make, model, and serial number be micro-stamped onto the interior surface or working parts in such a manner as to permit the transfer of these identifiers to the cartridge case upon firing and AB 334, seeks to further burden law-abiding California gun owners by mandating the report of lost or stolen firearms to the Department of Justice and law enforcement within five days of the disappearance of the firearm or face criminal penalty and a fine. Please contact your State Legislator and urge them to vote "NO" on Assembly Bills 1471 ("Micro-stamping bill") and 334 ("Victimizing-the-victim bill). NRA members and gun owners will be asked to contact their state representatives and senators in the coming days and highlight the many problems with both bills. CALIFORNIA (3): Spaying and Neutering of All Hunting Dogs! AB 1634, would require every dog older than four months to be spayed or neutered, unless the dog owner possesses an "intact" permit. The cost of the annual permit is unspecified in the legislation and is to be determined by the local government. It is critical that you contact your State Assembly Member and ask that he or she oppose this overreaching and discriminatory legislation. Please ask them to vote "NO" on AB 1634. CONNECTICUT: Anti-Gun Bill Heading to Connecticut House for Consideration! Senate Bill 938 would make it a crime for gun owners to not report the loss or theft of a firearm with 72 hours of when you "discover or should have discovered" it missing. Reporting the loss or theft of a handgun to police, would immediately trigger an investigation into the whether he "should have discovered" the missing gun(s) and exposes himself to criminal prosecution. Under this bill, which now applies only to handguns, police and prosecutors retain total discretion for what constitutes "should have discovered." Please call your State Representative TODAY at (860) 240-0400 and urge him or her to OPPOSE Senate Bill 938.

ILLINOIS: Illinois Bill Seeks to Ban Commonly Used Magazines and Rifles! Senate Bill 1007, introduced by former gun-ban lobbyist and current Senator, Dan Kotowski (D-33), is headed to the House, which could take it up at any time. SB 1007, which bans the manufacture, possession, delivery, sale, and purchase of standard capacity ammunition magazines capable of holding more than ten (10) cartridges. This bill is worded so broadly that it would also ban certain firearms, such as some Henry rifles, which have attached tubular magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition. It is critical that you call your State Representative at (217) 782-8223 immediately and urge him or her to oppose SB 1007.

INDIANA: Discharge Ban Advancing in Indianapolis-Marion County, Indiana! By just one vote, the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council's Rules and Public Safety Committee approved a measure crippling the lawful discharge of firearms within the consolidated city-county boundary. Specifically, Proposal 174 arbitrarily establishes that private property owners must have a minimum of five acres, zoned for agriculture, in order to lawfully hunt and/or target practice. Proposal 174 now goes before the full City-County Council for consideration - possibly as soon as Monday, June 11! Please contact your City-County Councillor and strongly encourage him or her to reject Proposal 174, and rather, focus on enforcing existing state law that addresses the reckless use or dangerous discharge for firearms. IOWA: LeClaire City Council Unanimously Approves Land For Les Baer Custom, Inc! Thanks for all your hard work and effort in contacting the LeClaire City Council. In a victory for the town of LeClaire and for the Second Amendment, the LeClaire City Council unanimously approved the sale of city land to firearms manufacturer Les Baer Custom, Inc. Les Baer decided to relocate from Illinois due to a state proposal to ban the distribution, sale, and manufacture of many of Les Baer's products.

LOUISIANA: Gun-Ban Proposal to be Considered! The vote essentially "kills" Legislative Document 1635, "An Act To Prohibit Recreational Bear Trapping." County Commissioner Peter Liakopoulos has begun to circulate petitions asking county employees to agree that a "NO FIREARMS" policy should be adopted in the Bob Ruud Community Center in order to ban the carrying of firearms into public meetings. Please take the time to contact the County Commissioners and politely ask that they NOT change their firearms policy in the Bob Ruud Community Center. NEW JERSEY: Tabernacle Township, New Jersey Seeking Anti-Gun Ordinance! A measure which would prohibit the use or discharge of firearms within 450 feet of a structure on someone else's property, even where it is safe to do so, has been introduced in Tabernacle Township. If enacted, gun owners would be required to seek written permission from newcomers to Tabernacle Township in order to target shoot on their own private property! Please make plans to attend the Tabernacle Township Committee meeting on Tuesday, May 29, at 8:00 p.m., at the Tabernacle Town Hall. NEW YORK (2): Anti-Gun Package Still Looming in New York Legislature! A broad package of anti-gun legislation that was approved by the New York State Assembly is still pending action in the Senate. Each bill poses a very real threat to our Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the Empire State, so it is critical that you contact your State Senators at (518) 455-2800 and urge them to vote "NO" on A06525, A00829, A02772, A03447, A07331, and A00076!

NORTH CAROLINA (1): Anti-Gun Measure Fails! House Bill 1847, which would have required law-abiding gun owners to report the loss or theft of a firearm to police or face criminal prosecution, failed to pass the House of Representatives. Thank you for your hard work and support in helping defend the Second Amendment by opposing this attack on our Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

NORTH CAROLINA (2): Two Vital Pro-Gun Bills Fail to Beat Deadline House Bill 310, "Emergency Powers" legislation, and House Bill 476, "Castle Doctrine" failed to pass out of the House Judiciary II Committee prior to the crossover deadline. These bills are now considered "dead" until the next legislative session.

OREGON: Youth Hunter Mentor Bill Heading To Governor's Desk! On Monday, May 21, Senate Bill 892 passed the House of Representatives and is now heading to Governor Ted Kulongoski's (D) desk for his consideration. SB 892 establishes a program whereby a youth between the ages of nine and 14 may hunt for big game with a mentor, who is a licensed hunter and over 21 years of age. Thanks to all who testified at the several hearings, sent emails, and made phone calls in support of SB 892.

TENNESSEE (1): Governor Signs Vital "Castle Doctrine" Legislation! On Tuesday, May 22, Governor Phil Bredesen (D) signed House Bill 1907, the "Castle Doctrine" self-defense bill, into law. HB 1907 will allow an individual to use deadly force to protect him or herself wherever he or she have a legal right to be. The bill also provides civil immunity for those who defend themselves from criminal attack. Please contact the Governor's office at (615) 741-2001 and your State Legislator at (615) 741-3511 and thank him or her for defending our Second Amendment right to self-defense.

TENNESSEE (2): Right-to-Carry Reform Legislation Needs Our Help! House Bill 132 and House Bill 2184 are scheduled to be heard by the House Budget Sub-Committee on Wednesday, May 30. HB 132 would allow a person with a Right-to-Carry permit to possess a firearm in all public hunting areas, refuges, wildlife management areas, and national forests managed by the state, HB 2184 would allow any resident who has a Right-to-Carry permit to possess his or her handgun while within the boundaries of any state park and all areas for recreational purposes. Please contact the House Budget Sub-Committee at (615) 741-2031 and ask members to support HB 2184, as amended, but to remove the signage requirement and to vote "YES" to HB 132.

TEXAS (1): Governor Perry Signs Vital Right-to-Carry Confidentiality Bill! House Bill 991, the Concealed Handgun License confidentiality (CHL) bill sponsored by State Representative Patrick Rose (D-Dripping Springs) and State Senator Bob Deuell (R-Greenville) was signed this week by Governor Rick Perry (R). This bill will keep CHL permit data private. Thank you for all your calls and emails in support HB 991, which ensured strong, bi-partisan support of the measure.

TEXAS (2): The Latest Update on Firearms Legislation! Another NRA-supported measure is heading to Governor Perry's desk. House Bill 1815 will clarify that it is legal to transport a handgun in your motor vehicle for personal protection without a Concealed Handgun License (CHL). Unfortunately, one NRA-supported measure did not make it past the last day for floor consideration, SB 534, which would have allowed CHLs to transport and store their handguns in locked motor vehicles while parked on their employers' property. This measure will be returning next year, so please continue to check www.NRAILA.org for updates on important firearms legislation for the rest of 2007 and future legislation in 2008.

As you know, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is heading a national cabal of anti-gun mayors called “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.”


Law enforcement has been steadfast in joining NRA in support of preserving the Tiahrt Amendment. Both the BATFE and the Fraternal Order of Police (which Bloomberg called a “fringe organization”) strongly support keeping this sensitive data private.

Bloomberg, however, is undeterred and he is continuing to try to expand his anti-gun coalition. In addition to the mayors of cities in Arkansas listed below, who are currently members of this coalition, Bloomberg is increasingly pressuring more mayors in your state to join his efforts, engaging in a full court press!

Pro-Gun Advancements Made in Kansas!

The Kansas Legislature not only passed House Bill 2528 this session,
but also overrode Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D) veto. HB2528 would
prevent local municipalities from passing ordinances prohibiting concealed
carry that are more stringent than state law. Also passed this session
was Senate Bill 192, legislation that allows for licensed hunters at least
18 years of age to take out another individual for a mentored hunting
experience. The new hunter would be allowed to bypass hunter
education for one-year after which time he or she would be
required to pass the required hunter education course to purchase
a hunting license.
